White Sundal / Chana Sundal / Kondaikadalai Sundal

Chana, as we all knew, is a very healthy protein-rich food, which can be used to prepare many varieties of delicious recipes. Chana sundal is a famous recipe prepared during festive seasons like Navarathri and Pongal, and even as a regular evening snack too.

Chana sundal can be given as an evening snack to kids which will give enough nourishment for their growing bodies.

As the festive season is ahead of us, let’s see this simple, super easy sundal recipe.

  • 1 cup Chana / white sundal / chickpeas
  • 1 no big onion or 5 to 6 shallots of small onion
  • 1 tbsp coconut scraped
  • coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt as per taste


  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 no red chilli/green chilli as per taste
  • 1 strip curry leaves


  1. Wash chickpeas and soak in enough water overnight or at least 8 to 10 hours.

    Then, pressure cook well adding salt as needed. 

  2. Chop the onion and scrape a tbsp of coconut.

    Add oil in a pan.

  3. Add the seasoning and add onion and a pinch of salt (we already added salt during pressure cooking, only a pinch for onion is enough).

  4. Fry for a minute and then add pressure cooked chana/chickpeas.

  5. Mix and fry for a minute.

    Add coconut scrapings and mix well, and switch off the flame.

  6. Garnish with coriander leaves.

    Now healthy delicious evening/festive snack is ready to be served hot. 

Recipe Notes

Cook chana well with pressure cooker. 

As it has an outer covering, it wont get messed up even if overcooked.

You need to wait for 5 to 6 whistles in a medium sized pressure cooker.
