Ivy Gourd or Kovakkai is good for sugar control. Usually, diabetic patients prefer to eat this healthy vegetable, but including this in our regular family diet will help us to prevent diabetes. Making it presentable will urge everyone in the family to be a fan of this ivy gourd. Make it as a fry with little oil and you will start to see how your kid will ask for this recipe again and again.

  • 250 g Kovakkai / Ivy Gourd / Tindora / Dondakaya
  • 1/2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Pepper powder
  • Turmeric powder, a pinch
  • Salt as per taste


  1. Wash the vegetables and slice them as shown.

  2. Add 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil in a kadai and add the cut kovakkai.

    Add the spices - chilli powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, and salt.

  3. Fry in low flame until it's done. Check with a piece to make sure the vegetable is fried well. It will take more than 15 minutes for them to fry.

    Your healthy fry is ready to serve as a side dish for the meals.

Recipe Notes

Ivy gourd or kovakkai will need less salt. Use accordingly.
