How to make Ghee Rice (spice-flavored Basmati Rice) Recipe…

Looking for an easy recipe to go with a rich gravy – either veg or non-veg, this ghee rice goes well with both.

Weekends are the days when we wish to relax, at the same time wish to eat tasty foods. If we plan to cook a rich gravy, we can make this ghee rice as a main dish to go with them. As a flavored rice, this will give more flavor to the side dish that we are preparing, giving the side dish more center of attraction.

I tried this once some time back for chicken gravy and I was impressed by the end result and started preparing this from time to time. To fill up the space of a missing Chicken Briyani in our Sunday menu, ghee rice with chicken gravy will do the magic.

Sharing here my simple, yet tasty ghee rice recipe.

Ghee Rice / Nei Soru

A simple flavored Basmati rice recipe. Well-suited for a rich veg or non-veg gravy as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Basmati Rice
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • Salt as needed

Seasoning

  • 5 no Cloves
  • 2 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 strand Javithri/Jathipathiri/Mace
  • 2 no Brinji leaves
  • 1 no Black Cardamom
  • 2 no Green Cardamom

Instructions

  1. Be ready with the seasoning spices.

    Wash Basmati rice and soak in water for half an hour.  Drain then water and save it in a separate bowl.

    One cup Basmati rice needs two cups of water for cooking. 

  2. Take a pressure cooker pan and add ghee to it and heat it.

    Add the seasonings and fry in low flame for a minute.

  3. Add the drained rice to the seasonings and fry the rice for two minutes.

    Then add water to it. Wait for the water to boil and for the rice to show up on the water.

    Then close the pressure cooker with lid and cook on low flame for 10 minutes.

    Switch off the flame and wait for the pressure to release.

Recipe Notes

  1. For one cup of Basmati rice, use two cups of water for cooking.
  2. You can add ghee-fried dry fruits and nuts to the rice if you wish.
  3. You can add fried onions to the ghee rice while serving.

 

Garnish with fried onions (if you wish, you can add ghee-fried dry fruits and nuts).

Spice flavored, aromatic Ghee rice is ready to serve with gravy of your choice.
